Celebrating Community and Sustainability at Our Annual General Meeting
Last night, Sussex Neighbourhood House hosted a successful and inspiring Annual General Meeting, bringing together members, staff, volunteers, and community supporters to reflect on the past year’s achievements and look forward to the future.
A Night of Reflection and Progress
The AGM was an opportunity to celebrate the strides we’ve made across various areas, from diversifying our programs to strengthening partnerships and enhancing inclusivity. Our 2023-2024 Annual Report highlighted significant milestones, including:
- Expanding Program Offerings: Engaging the community with activities ranging from kids’ arts classes to health and wellbeing programs for older adults.
- Strengthening Social Connections: A variety of social groups, such as Art Space and the Chatty Café, continued to grow, providing welcoming spaces for people to connect.
- Empowering Lifelong Learning: Our educational programs saw increased participation, helping individuals of all ages develop valuable skills.
A Focus on Sustainability
Sustainability took center stage at this year’s AGM, with a dedicated presentation showcasing our ongoing commitment to environmental initiatives. Highlights included:
- Repair Café Success: Now a monthly fixture, the Repair Café continues to thrive, with a total of 24 volunteers repairing over 375 items this past year.
- Recycling Efforts: Our recycling programs have expanded, with impressive collection numbers for plastic lids, bread tags, and aluminum coffee pods.
- Going Green: With support from the Merri-bek City Council, we transitioned our facilities to fully electric energy, reducing our carbon footprint and setting a positive example for the community.
