Therapeutic Horticulture Workshop: Growing Wellbeing Through Connection

Looking for a simple, meaningful way to support wellbeing and build connection in your community?
Join us for a hands-on Therapeutic Horticulture Workshop led by Rob, an experienced gardener with lived experience of intellectual disability. This practical session explores how gardening can be more than just growing plants, it can be a powerful way to connect, learn, and feel part of something bigger.
What to Expect
In this workshop, Rob will share his personal journey with therapeutic horticulture and how it has supported his own growth, confidence, and connection with others. Drawing on his experience with the Kevin Heinze GROW approach, the session introduces a participant-centered way of learning that values:
- Modelling and learning by doing
- Reflection and shared experiences
- Peer learning and collaboration
- Dignity of choice
You’ll head into the garden for hands-on activities, exploring the sensory qualities of different plants from texture to scent, and discovering how these experiences can support wellbeing in accessible, engaging ways.
Why Therapeutic Horticulture?
It’s about more than gardening skills. It’s about creating spaces where people can:
- Connect with others and build community
- Share knowledge and learn together
- Feel included and valued
- Experience a sense of purpose
This workshop will show you that therapeutic horticulture can be done anywhere, whether you have a backyard, a few pots indoors, or access to a shared garden space.
Who is this for?
Ideal for anyone interested in wellbeing, community connection, or inclusive practices. No gardening experience needed.
Whether you’re supporting others, looking to build your own skills, or simply curious about the benefits of gardening, you’ll leave with practical ideas and a fresh perspective on how small, shared experiences can grow into something meaningful.
