Intro to Screen & Multimedia – Evening Course Now Open

Looking to explore filmmaking or digital media but can’t make daytime classes?
Our popular screen and media course is back, now running as a 6-week evening program to make it more accessible for those balancing work, study, or other commitments.
Intro to Screen & Media offers a hands-on introduction to the creative and technical skills used across the screen and multimedia industries, all in a relaxed, supportive community environment.
What you’ll learn
Over six weeks, you’ll be guided through the fundamentals of:
- Cinematography and filming techniques
- Video editing and post-production
- Sound mixing and audio basics
- DIY animation techniques
You’ll also gain insight into what happens behind the scenes on a film set, exploring roles like videographer, sound technician, lighting supervisor, and gaffer.
Learn by doing
This is practical, skills-based course where you’ll:
- Work collaboratively in small groups
- Make creative decisions about filming and editing
- Build confidence using accessible tools
No expensive equipment needed. You’ll learn using smartphone cameras and free editing software, making it easy to continue your creative journey at home.
By the end of the course, you’ll have created your own short media piece to showcase what you’ve learned.
Pathways and opportunities
Facilitated by a young filmmaker with an passion for the industry, this course also introduces potential pathways into further training, including Certificate II in Creative Industries (TAFE).
Along the way, you’ll develop valuable transferable skills in:
- Communication and teamwork
- Creative problem-solving
- Digital and technical literacy
