Our popular screen and media course is back, now running as a 6-week evening program to make it more accessible for those balancing work, study, or other commitments.
Intro to Screen & Media offers a hands-on introduction to the creative and technical skills used across the screen and multimedia industries, all in a relaxed, supportive community environment.
Over six weeks, you’ll be guided through the fundamentals of:
You’ll also gain insight into what happens behind the scenes on a film set, exploring roles like videographer, sound technician, lighting supervisor, and gaffer.
This is practical, skills-based course where you’ll:
No expensive equipment needed. You’ll learn using smartphone cameras and free editing software, making it easy to continue your creative journey at home.
By the end of the course, you’ll have created your own short media piece to showcase what you’ve learned.
Facilitated by a young filmmaker with an passion for the industry, this course also introduces potential pathways into further training, including Certificate II in Creative Industries (TAFE).

Art Connect is a weekly art program designed to support creative exploration in a relaxed and inclusive environment. Running on Wednesdays from 1pm to 2:30pm, this small-group session offers a calm space to slow down, try something new, and engage in the process of making art.
Facilitated by Emily, a registered Creative Arts Therapist, each session focuses on drawing and painting as a way to explore ideas, experiences, and personal perspectives. Rather than focusing on outcomes or technical perfection, Art Connect encourages curiosity, experimentation, and individual expression.
Art Connect isn’t about being “good at art.” It’s about having a space where you can:

Our Writing Stories: Term 2 Creative Writing Series is a welcoming, beginner-friendly workshop designed to help you explore your voice, build confidence, and connect with others through writing.
Running across three Saturday sessions, this series introduces different styles of creative writing, from personal storytelling to poetry and short fiction, with guided exercises and supportive facilitation throughout.
Saturday 18 April | Moments in Memoir
Explore creative non-fiction through memory, reflection, and storytelling. Learn how to shape real experiences into meaningful writing using craft, structure, and voice.
Saturday 23 May | Poetry: Memory, Place & Short Forms
Experiment with free verse and short poetic forms like haiku. Discover how imagery, tone, rhythm, and line breaks can bring your writing to life.
Saturday 20 June | Looking at Short Fiction
Build characters, explore story structure, and develop a short piece of fiction with a clear beginning, middle, and end.
This series is led by Suzanne Hermanoczki and Lou Smith from Writing Days, local writers, teachers, and experienced workshop facilitators based in Merri-bek.
