Join us at Sussex Neighbourhood House for a delicious new three-part workshop series exploring homemade scone making.

These welcoming hands-on sessions are perfect for anyone wanting to learn new baking skills, meet others in the community and enjoy freshly baked treats together. Whether you’re an experienced baker or trying scone making for the first time, everyone is welcome.

Participants will be guided step-by-step through each recipe while learning simple techniques for mixing, baking, and serving delicious homemade scones.

Learn how to make classic fluffy scones served with jam and cream for the ultimate Devonshire Tea experience.

Thursday 11 June – Fresh Herb Scones
Try a savoury twist with fresh herb scones made using a blend of white and wholemeal flour.

Thursday 18 June – Pumpkin Scones
A much-loved classic using mashed pumpkin for soft, golden pumpkin scones full of flavour.

Join the new Walking Group at Sussex Neighbourhood house, running every Wednesday from 10am.

This welcoming weekly group explores easy walking trails around Pascoe Vale and surrounding suburbs, offering a chance to enjoy fresh air, local nature, and good company.

Each week features a different local walk, showcasing beautiful parklands, creek trails, and green spaces in Melbourne’s north.

Explore the scenic surrounds of Coburg Lake, where leafy parklands meet the historic bluestone walls of Pentridge prison. This easy 2.9km walk offers plenty of nature and local history along the way.

Enjoy a longer scenic stroll along Moonee Ponds Creek, surrounded by lush greenery and shared walking and cycling paths.

Looking to explore filmmaking or digital media but can’t make daytime classes?

Our popular screen and media course is back, now running as a 6-week evening program to make it more accessible for those balancing work, study, or other commitments.

Intro to Screen & Media offers a hands-on introduction to the creative and technical skills used across the screen and multimedia industries, all in a relaxed, supportive community environment.


What you’ll learn

Over six weeks, you’ll be guided through the fundamentals of:

You’ll also gain insight into what happens behind the scenes on a film set, exploring roles like videographer, sound technician, lighting supervisor, and gaffer.


Learn by doing

This is practical, skills-based course where you’ll:

No expensive equipment needed. You’ll learn using smartphone cameras and free editing software, making it easy to continue your creative journey at home.

By the end of the course, you’ll have created your own short media piece to showcase what you’ve learned.


Pathways and opportunities

Facilitated by a young filmmaker with an passion for the industry, this course also introduces potential pathways into further training, including Certificate II in Creative Industries (TAFE).

Looking for a gentle, welcoming way to explore creativity and reconnect with yourself and others?

Art Connect is a weekly art program designed to support creative exploration in a relaxed and inclusive environment. Running on Wednesdays from 1pm to 2:30pm, this small-group session offers a calm space to slow down, try something new, and engage in the process of making art.

Facilitated by Emily, a registered Creative Arts Therapist, each session focuses on drawing and painting as a way to explore ideas, experiences, and personal perspectives. Rather than focusing on outcomes or technical perfection, Art Connect encourages curiosity, experimentation, and individual expression.

Our Writing Stories: Term 2 Creative Writing Series is a welcoming, beginner-friendly workshop designed to help you explore your voice, build confidence, and connect with others through writing.

Running across three Saturday sessions, this series introduces different styles of creative writing, from personal storytelling to poetry and short fiction, with guided exercises and supportive facilitation throughout.

In this workshop, Rob will share his personal journey with therapeutic horticulture and how it has supported his own growth, confidence, and connection with others. Drawing on his experience from the Kevin Heinze GROW Therapeutic Horticulture program, the session encourages a participant-centered way of learning that values:

This is a great opportunity to have your voice hear, influence local community programs, and gain leadership experience while contributing to a vibrant community organisation.
