That’s why we’re thrilled to introduce our expanded permaculture program, now offering both Introduction and Intermediate Permaculture & Garden Design courses. These hands-on classes will take you from the fundamentals of sustainable gardening to advanced techniques for designing thriving edible landscapes.


Introduction to Permaculture & Garden Design

Perfect for beginners and those looking to deepen their connection to nature, this course will teach you practical food-growing skills while contributing to the creation of a Food Forest Garden at Sussex Neighbourhood House. Learn how to transform a simple lawn into a diverse and vibrant edible ecosystem, designed to work in harmony with nature’s rhythms.

  • The philosophy and principles of forest gardening
  • Nature-based gardening practices for a sustainable, low-maintenance space
  • Site assessment and design techniques
  • Soil health and biodiversity, including no-dig gardening methods

Building upon the Food Forest Garden at Sussex NH, this hands-on learning experience will refine your understanding of ecological design and sustainable food production.

  • Designing perennial food systems with fruit trees, berries, and herbs
